Smoke Escape Hood Earns Certification

Oct. 9, 2008

Elmridge Protection Products earns certification for the iEvac® Fire Escape Hood by the Safety Equipment Institute (SEI) for compliance with ANSI/ISEA 110 -2003, the American National Standard for Air-Purifying Protective Smoke Escape Devices. The Elmridge iEvac Fire Escape Hood is to be worn in order to escape from a fire. Fire injuries occur far too often. Statistics show that in the United States someone dies in a fire about every three hours, and someone is injured every half an hour. Most victims of fires die from smoke or toxic gases and not from burns. The iEvac® Fire Escape Hood is lightweight, can be put on in 30 seconds, and is sealed into a small package for a long shelf life. The iEvac Fire Escape Hood was extensively tested against several categories of risk. It was tested against gases, including carbon monoxide and hydrogen cyanide, deadly gases generated by the combustion of modern materials such as plastics. In addition it was tested with soot and with sub-micron particulates. The composite filtering canisters fitted to the iEvac are an effective combination of HEPA filtration, catalyst, and impregnated activated carbon. The hood material was tested with radiant heat and molten drip and the entire hood was subjected to extremes of heat, cold, pressure, shock and vibration.
